Overview
“Do not look the other way; do not hesitate. Recognize that the world is hungry for action, not words.
Act with courage and vision.” – Nelson Mandela
Imagine dropping a tiny pebble into a still pond. What happens? That one small drop sets off a series of ripples that grow larger and larger, emanating outward until they span the entire pond. You are that pebble. You can have that kind of impact simply by standing up, speaking out, and living a life that aligns with your values, as you have learned throughout Turning Green Classroom.
Over the past month, you have seen that every action has various impacts, positive and negative, that reach far beyond the original or intended purpose. Consider the transition in your own life since the start of TGC through education and mindful action. How have you changed? Who have you inspired? What have you learned about your inner power to be a changemaker?
With dedication, intention, and passion for people and planet, YOU, fuel change all around you.
Now, it’s time to take all that you have learned to inspire tangible, actionable change in your home and in your community. Take your TGC experience one step further and develop your own climate action plan.
What is a climate action plan?
A climate action plan is a way to make tangible change in your life. Think back to the challenges and pledges you have made. What were areas of change you recognized? Here is a bit of inspiration in the form of project examples:
- Reducing food waste in our homes and community (think back to Food Waste)
- Consuming less animal products in our diets (think back to Meatless Monday)
- Planting a garden (think back to Biodiversity)
- Completing a citizen scientist project relating to climate issues (think back to Citizen Science)
For TGC, this should be a project that you can complete while social distancing but will still have an impact that benefits both you and the environment.
THINK
Before you dive into a project idea, take some time to reflect on the past 30 days – Earth Month.
ACTIVITY
Next, think back to the pledge you made in honor of Earth Day, for the Greenest Activity (if you have not done this challenge yet, go back and do it now!)

- What was something that you learned during TGC that you will never forget?

ACTIVITY
Your next task is to create a plan for a project to extend your Earth Day pledge or any other ideas you have been thinking about over this month! Talk to your family and friends and get some inspiration!

- What are your short and long term goals for the project?
- What are your desired outcomes?
Post it on the social media platform of your choice and tag @turninggreenorg with #TGClassroom.
